How to Test Pellet Stove Pressure Switch

In this tutorial we’ll see what a boiler air pressure switch is and how it works.

The pressure switch is a safety device and is used to check the exact evacuation of the combustion chamber fumes. If the air pressure is too high or too low, this device intervenes, by switching off the boiler.

If the switch-off has been activated by the pressure switch, a message like “Depr Sic Fail” will appear on the display followed by an audible alarm. In these cases, make sure that the stove has been cleaned correctly, that the chimney is free of obstructions, that the pellets stove door gasket is perfectly intact and clean. If, however, the stove continues to go into alarm, you must test the operation of the pressure switch.

To do this, access the inside of the stove and identify it.

(ATTENTION – BEFORE PROCEEDING, WE’VE TO WAIT THAT THE STOVE IS COMPLETELY COOLING, FINALLY DISCONNECT THE CABLE FROM THE ELECTRICAL MAINS).

Once the pressure switch has been identified, we must detach the tube from the suction chamber and remove it from its housing. Obtain a continuity tester and put the test leads directly on the contacts C (Common) and NO (Open Norm), see image.

The display should show the digit 1 which stands for “Line Interrupted”. Now, you’ve to blow into the tube to simulate the air pressure, in doing so, the pressure switch should operate and give continuity to the contacts. If blowing, the measurement of the Tester is equal 0 (zero) then, the pressure switch works regularly, otherwise it must be replaced.

If the pressure switch works but the stove goes into alarm with the words “Depr Sic Fail” (depression problem), I recommend reading this article
