How to Solve Pellet Stove Pressure Switch Alarm – Depr Sic Fail

Let’s see how to solve the pellet stove pressure switch alarm.

If this alarm is shown to us even though the chimney and stove are clean, and the door seal is in good condition, it could be a false alarm. If this is our case, it’s possible to solve the problem in this way that I describe later.

To do this, we need to access the pressure switch, so we’ll have to equip ourselves with the necessary tools to remove any stove covers. Warning! Make sure that the power cord isn’t connected to the mains and that the stove is completely cold.

The operation of the pressure switch is limited to checking that the pipes, the flue gas chamber and the boiler are perfectly clean and/or that there’re no air leaks in the environment. This in the photo is the pressure switch.

Your can be slightly different, but the operation is the same, and you can recognize it from the transparent tube that goes from the pressure switch to the fumes suction chamber. If the air pressure is normal, the pressure switch starts the pellets load and the stove turns on, otherwise it blocks the load and the system goes into alarm.

Let’s see how to do it

If you’ve managed to locate the pressure switch, you don’t have to do anything else, remove the tube connected to it (marking with the pen the spout so as to reinsert it in the right position) and blow inside, with the mouth or the compressor. If you breathe with your mouth you have difficulty, it means that the passage is obstructed and that is what causes the alarm. If you don’t have a compressor to free the flow, you must remove the dirt at the end of the flue gas chamber in the following way:

Remove the tube connected to the suction chamber and with a thin screwdriver try to free the passage from the soot deposited. Now, reinsert the tube at both ends and turn on the stove, being careful to don’t touch the internal parts while it’s being powered. If everything went well, the stove will start to load the pellet immediately after the glow plug is preheated.

If the problem persists, make sure again that the flue pipe and the stove are perfectly clean. Check that the door gasket is intact, because if it doesn’t close properly, no vacuum is created.

In rare cases, it may be a malfunction of the pressure switch. In these cases it should be replaced. See “How to test pellet stove pressure switch“.
